Dental Crowns In Harley Street

A dental crown is an artificial restoration that fits over the remaining part of a prepared tooth to repair and strengthen a damaged tooth to prevent any future problems. A dental crown will not only improve the function of your teeth, they also look very realistic.

Crowns are an ideal restoration for teeth that have been broken or have been weakened by decay or a very large filling. Although dental crowns are generally used to restore teeth, they can also enhance the aesthetics of the smile as part of a smile makeover.

Bright Smiles Clinic ensures only the highest quality materials are used to produce our Crowns. Porcelain crowns are the most popular choice as they provide a natural appearance and have a glossy finish. Crowns can be coloured to match the natural teeth and provide an aesthetically pleasing result.

During your consultation, your dentist will carry out a full assessment to determine whether you are suitable for a dental crown. If we feel you would benefit from an alternative treatment, we will discuss all possible treatment options with you to enable you to make an informed decision before you proceed with any treatment.

Who is Suitable for Dental Crown Treatment?

A dental crown may be used for a number of reasons, including

  • Improving the appearance of discoloured fillings
  • Protecting a root filling
  • Help hold a bridge or denture firmly in place.
  • Strengthen a tooth after suffering from dental decay
  • Stabilise a cracked tooth or to protect a weak tooth

What Happens During Dental Crown Treatment?

Dental crown treatment usually takes place over two appointments. During your first appointment, the affected tooth is prepared and cleaned, decayed tissue is removed and an impression of the tooth is made. This will be used as a template for the new crown to ensure an exact fit. You will be fitted with a temporary crown which will be replaced with your custom made crown during your second visit.

Our clinicians are very experienced in providing patients with the finest quality crowns ranging from high-end cosmetic all porcelain crowns to CAD CAM manufactured crowns that are both very strong and have a fantastic fit. Bright Smiles Clinic only use the best materials to ensure optimum function and aesthetically pleasing results.

Does Dental Crown Treatment Hurt?

During the preparation stage, some dental enamel will be removed. You will be given an anaesthetic to numb the surrounding area of the tooth and ensure you are as comfortable as possible. As soon as the anaesthetic takes effect you will not feel anything throughout the treatment process. However, you may have some sensitivity to hot and cold after the treatment.

Advantages of Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are generally very strong and will protect your teeth from further weakness and damage. They also improve the overall look of teeth and dental health by protecting and supporting the original teeth.

Due to the material used to create the crowns they look natural and will fit in with the rest of your teeth, providing a healthy, natural look As crowns are made of a strong material they provide support to bite functionality.

Disadvantages of Dental Crowns

A lot of the original tooth may need to be removed in order to fit a crown, so this treatment may not be suitable for everyone. Teeth may also be extra sensitive after treatment and you may need to use special products for sensitive teeth. Dental crowns are also susceptible to chipping and will need to be replaced if this occurs.
